Hey, hey! Are you looking for amazing non-toxic makeup and non-toxic beauty stores in NYC? I’m sharing a list of my favorite (and I seriously mean the best) non-toxic makeup store destinations to stock up on while in the big apple!
First of all, I’m so glad you’re interested in non-toxic beauty! Clean beauty is a *MUST* for us ladies and gents in this new era of consumers saying no to toxic ingredients in our products.
If non-toxic beauty is new to you, don’t be afraid! While there is a lot to learn, the biggest thing is that you’re taking steps to cleanse your old *and likely harmful* makeup and skincare products for squeaky clean ones!
non-toxic makeup store in NYC #1:
CREDO beauty:
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORES IN THE WORLD. Phew, okay, I had to get that off my chest.
Credo is seriously my go-to, spend-all-day in the store kind of place. I like to describe Credo as the CLEAN and NON-TOXIC Sephora. It has almost every product you can think of, from makeup to perfumes, candles, body wash and more.
They carry the largest collection of non-toxic, clean beauty products, so you’re sure to find a few things you love (if not a whole bag full). I found my faaaaaav face wash/makeup remover here (read more about it, here) – it seriously smells like a tropical oasis and works wonders.
Since Credo carries so many different ah-mazing brands, the prices vary to suit everyone’s budget – affordable, moderate, luxury – you will really find just what you are looking for.
Plus, Credo is frequently coming out with new products that you can add to your shelf.
WHY CREDO
The USA has banned or restricted only 30 ingredients from personal care products. But in Canada, that number is 600. And in the EU? Over 1,400. That means that companies selling cosmetics in the US are held to different standards in the EU, Canada, and other countries.” – Credo.
To feel 100% secure about the products you’re buying, Credo has banned tons of ingredients from every product that they carry – which is called “The Dirty List” – that can have harmful health and/or environmental impacts. Their list shares the name (or names) of the beauty or makeup ingredient, and what the negative side effects of it can be.
Additionally, all products Credo carries are certified cruelty-free!
You can find the list of all products banned from Credo’s products here.
To make it even better, Credo donates 1% of every purchase directly to the Lipstick Angels. The Lipstick Angels is a non-profit organization that gives personalized makeup and skincare “glam” to those with cancer. You can learn more about this incredible organization here.
Two other noteworthy parts about Credo (besides their outstanding values and non-toxic beauty and makeup products) are their rewards and recycling system. More details below, love!
Credo Recycling Program:
Okay, so we all know how important it is to recycle and reduce our waste, right? Well, Credo partnered with TerraCycle – an innovative company that specializes in hard-to-recycle products – and lets customers bring back empties (empty makeup and beauty products) and will recycle them for you. For FREE!
This is huuuuuge my friend! I know I never knew what to do with my old makeup compacts or nail polish bottles, but now, Credo has solved that problem for us.
Want to know another bonus about their recycling program? For every empty full-size makeup or beauty product you bring back to Credo, they will reward you with 10 Credo Rewards Points.
What are the Credo Rewards Points? I’ll tell ya, girlfriend!
Credo Rewards Program:
Credo has a rewards point-based program that is so handy if you’re a full-blown beauty guru or just a minimalist.
If you’re going to shop at Credo either in person or online, I would highly recommend that you sign up for their rewards program to get points for the money you’re spending there. It’s practically like getting free products for purchasing what you already were going to buy.
The way it works is that you get 1 point for every $1 dollar you spend at Credo and believe me, this can add up quickly LOL.
Earn extra points from things as easy as:
- First purchase – 10 points
- Celebrating your birthday – 5 points
- Creating an account – 5 points
- Sharing reviews on products you’ve purchased (only if you want to) – 10 for the first, 2 for every other
- Follow on IG – 5 points
And, you get rewarded for recycling those beauty empties (10 points per empty!) we talked about earlier. Ca-ching! Getting points for helping our environment has never been so easy.
Credo’s points can be used to redeem free beauty and makeup products or services:
- Totally Credo – 200 points – free eyebrow wax or travel-sized product
- Super Credo – 500 points – free Credo makeover in-store, or full-sized product
Credo Locations around NYC: Brooklyn, Soho, and soon, Upper East Side!
Credo lets you try just about any item in their stores with a mini sample (or samples) to take home. This is a bonus if you live here or are visiting for a while, as it gives you enough time to test the product before buying.
If you can’t make it into the store, you will love shopping from Credo’s website.
Credo’s shop section is divided by product focus, such as “Makeup,” “Skincare,” “Minis & Travel,” “Wellness,” and more. Then, each section is narrowed down further by a specific need. So let’s say you’re in the “Skincare” section, you can niche down to “Concern” – aka. acne, anti-aging, dryness, dullness, hyperpigmentation, and so forth.
This is so useful! This sorting feature truly helps you quickly find exactly what products you want to buy or learn more info about! Plus, the “Minis & Travel,” are great gifts this holiday season for your fellow clean, holistic beauty lovers!
All orders customers can select 3 free samples to try (woohoo), and purchases of $50 or more receive free shipping.
*If you can’t tell, Credo is one of my favorite non-toxic makeup stores in NYC/on the planet*
non-toxic makeup store in NYC #2:
THE DETOX MARKET:
The Detox Market is relatively new to New York City, with its first store flagship NYC store opening in late 2018. However, it has much to offer consumers who are looking to switch from toxic makeup to clean beauty products.
Let me start off by saying, that this store is HUGE. It is two stories and boasts beautiful windows with natural sunlight and a gorgeous layout to show off the non-toxic beauty products, and I mean, who doesn’t love that?
The Detox Market is similar to Credo as it has a list of Banned Ingredients that you will never find in any of their products. Their website easily presents this information to the consumer in an easy to understand format. The page features icons of the potentially harmful side effects that are listed under each banned ingredient. Visually, this is an awesome way to show how toxic ingredients in makeup and skincare products really can be.
WHY THE DETOX MARKET:
Out of the thousands of makeup brands The Detox Market team tests each year, less than 2 percent actually make it to their stores! That is outstanding!
Their expert team consists of estheticians, naturopaths, nutritionists, and more. This dedicated expert team allows us makeup and beauty lovers to feel confident about the brands/products The Detox Market carries.
Plus, every brand sold at The Detox Market is certified cruelty-free, so hip hip for that!
Additionally, The Detox Market makes it easy for us to find what we want to purchase online. They also break down sections of their website (like Credo does) into searchable categories. I.e. under “Makeup” will be “Skin Type” which addresses needs such as dry, oily, combination, mature, and sensitive.
The Detox Market Rewards Program:
The Detox Market also has a rewards point-based system that is worth enrolling in before shopping! It brokes down as:
- 5 points per $1 you spend
- 100 points per product review
- 200 points when you sign up
For the points you accumulate here, The Detox Market will give you a credit that can eventually add up to $ off your next purchase. For example, you would get $10 for earning yourself 1,000 points.
Earning 5 points per $1 you spend is quite generous, so this is sure to add up in no time!
Are you going to check out Credo or The Detox Market while in New York City? They are the best non-toxic makeup stores in NYC, so I hope you do. We might just run into each other there! 😉
